Joe Biden appeals for unity across US after Trump assassination attempt

Joe Biden has called for the US to “unite as one nation” following an alleged assassination attempt against former president Donald Trump.

“There is no place in America for this kind of violence — for any violence. Ever. Period”, he said in the six-minute address from the White House, describing the attack as “contrary to everything we stand for as a nation.”

The president has ordered a security review into how it could have happened, despite snipers surrounding the rally.
