Wayne Rooney takes cheeky dig at Gary Neville in first Plymouth press conference
Wayne Rooney took a cheeky dig at former teammate Gary Neville during his first press conference as Plymouth Argyle manager on Thursday 4 July.
The former England captain was appointed by the Championship club in May, having previously lasted just three months in charge at Birmingham.
When asked about his decision to make a quick return to management - having appeared as a pundit on BBC’s coverage of Euro 2024 last month - Rooney took a light-hearted jab at a former Manchester United teammate.
“I don’t want to become the next Gary Neville,” he joked.
“Since January it’s been a real strange time being at home. I’ve done bits of TV work, but my real desire is to get back into management.”
