Ireland stun WXV1 world champions New Zealand with last-gasp win
Ireland’s women stunned world champions New Zealand with a 29-27 victory in their opening WXV1 clash in Vancouver.
Replacement Erin King grabbed her second try to level the scores in the last minute, with outside-half Dannah O’Brien holding her nerve to land the decisive conversion.
Though New Zealand had the bulk of possession throughout the game, they had three tries disallowed by the television match official [TMO].
Ireland, who face hosts Canada in their next game on Saturday, stood firm and seized their chances to run in five tries.
