Palestine gets ‘biggest cheer of night’ at Paralympics opening ceremony, says TV presenter

Palestinian Paralympic athletes had the "biggest cheer of the night," Channel 4 News presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy said during Wednesday's (28 August) opening ceremony in Paris.

Fadi Deeb will compete in the men's shot put as the only athlete representing Palestine at the 2024 games.

Ahead of the competition, the 39-year-old told Democracy Now that he was shot by an Israeli sniper in 2001 and has lost family members in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Four athletes have represented Palestine since the National Paralympic Committee debuted at the 2000 Games.
