Adam Peaty questions if Chinese swimmers are taking doping tests ‘like I am’

Adam Peaty questioned if his Chinese rivals are taking doping tests “like I am” amid the scandal that has hung over the Paris Olympics.

China stormed to gold in the men’s 4x100m medley relay on Sunday night (4 August), with two of the four members on the team listed among 23 Chinese swimmers who tested positive for the banned performance enhancing drug trimetazidine (TMZ) ahead of the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

The swimmers were allowed to compete after a Chinese investigation ruled that they consumed food that had been contaminated.

“In sport, one of my favorite quotes I’ve seen lately is ‘There’s no point in winning if you don’t win it fair,’” Peaty said after his foursome wound up fourth to miss the medal stand, suggesting China’s Qin Haiyang should be “out of the sport”.

He doubled down on his claim on Monday morning during an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, questioning if Chinese athletes were being “tested at 6am like I am”.
