England World Cup winner Sir Bobby Charlton’s career in numbers as he dies aged 86
England World Cup winner and Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton has died aged 86.
Widely considered one of the greatest football players of all time, he scored three goals during England’s victorious 1966 World Cup campaign, including both in a 2-1 victory over Portugal in the semi-final.
Sir Bobby spent almost all of his club career at Manchester United, becoming one of the most famous players in their history, scoring 249 goals in 758 appearances from 1956 to 1973.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Sir Bobby passed peacefully in the early hours of Saturday morning. He was surrounded by his family,” a statement read.
