Watch live as Boris Johnson holds Covid news conference

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is holding a Downing Street Covid briefing in response to the new threat of the omicron variant in the UK.

Johnson will address the new measures which took effect from today, which seek to slow the spread of the new Covid variant after 22 omicron cases have already been detected in the UK.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said all nine of Scotland’s cases of the new variant could be traced back to a single event.
