Huge fire burns after gas pipe explosion near Madrid universities
A huge fire burned near university campuses in Madrid after a gas explosion on Tuesday, 24 October.
Students were evacuated from dormitories but Madrid emergency services said there were no injuries.
A building of the Complutense University was also evacuated according to regional media.
Officials said the fire was extinguished at around 4pm local time (3pm BST), around 30 minutes after it was first reported.
Jose Maria Coello, Complutense’s vice-chancellor, said university psychologists were helping in the area and alternative accommodation for evacuated students had been arranged.
