Destruction in Sunderland as community deals with aftermath of rioting
Destruction was seen in Sunderland on Saturday morning as the community dealt with the aftermath of rioting on Friday, 2 August.
A far-right mob had torched a police station as eight people were arrested amid violent disorder that saw a mosque surrounded by rioters.
Speaking after the violence, Northumbria police and crime commissioner Susan Dungworth said thugs involved in violent disorder have not given a second thought to the families of Southport stabbing victims.
Axel Muganwa Rudakubana, 17, from Lancashire, is accused of the attack on Monday, but false claims spread online that the suspect was an asylum seeker who had arrived in the UK by boat.
