Portsmouth crowd chants ‘I’m English ‘til I die’ as far-right marches spread across UK

A crowd carrying English and Union Jack flags chanted "I'm English til' I die" on the steps of the Guildhall in Portsmouth on Saturday, 3 August, as marches spread across the UK in the wake of the Southport stabbing attacks.

Rioting from far-right groups in cities such as London and Sunderland came after the killing of three young girls on Monday.

Axel Muganwa Rudakubana, 17, from Lancashire, is accused of the attack, but false claims spread online that the suspect was an asylum seeker who had arrived in the UK by boat.

Steph Richards, who filmed the crowd in Portsmouth, told The Independent: "It was pretty scary, and the police eventually suggested we move away. There were about 300 of them. Just 30 of us."
