Watch: Quick-thinking shopkeeper foils robbery by trapping intruder under shutters
Footage captures the moment a brave shopkeeper foiled a knifepoint robbery by trapping the intruder under the store’s shutters.
Last month, Malcolm Trimble walked into a Durham shop carrying a kitchen knife concealed in his sleeve, picked up a four-pack of lager, then threatened the shopkeeper.
But he wasn’t prepared for the shopkeeper’s quick thinking.
He raced from behind the counter, fled the premises and held the door closed to keep the intruder inside, before cooly activating the system to lower the shop’s metal roller shutters from outside.
Realising he was about to be trapped, Trimble tried to open the door and attempted to slide under the descending shutters.
However, his mistimed slide ended with him pinned to the floor as the intended victim was calmly calling the police.
Trimble consoled himself by reaching for one last can of lager to drink. He was later arrested and jailed for three years and four months.
