Scottish people ready for change, says Labour MSP as Margaret Ferrier by-election triggered
Scottish people are “ready to vote for change,” a Labour MSP has said after constituents voted to remove former SNP MP Margaret Ferrier for breaking Covid rules.
“The reality is we have lived for three years with a rule-breaking MP... who refused to resign,” Scottish Labour MSP Paul O’Kane told BBC Breakfast on Wednesday (2 August).
The vote has triggered a by-election in Rutherglen and Hamilton West.
In total, 11,896 people signed Scotland’s first recall petition after Ms Ferrier travelled by train despite having tested positive for the virus in September 2020.
Ms Ferrier will not be running in the by election.
