Rotherham riots: Police guard Holiday Inn as residents sweep up glass in mammoth clean-up
Police guard the Holiday Inn Express hotel near Rotherham as a mammoth clean up takes place following Sunday’s riots (4 August) in the South Yorkshire town.
Violence has hit several towns and cities around the UK since misinformation was used to enflame tensions following the murder of three girls and the attempted murder of seven others in Southport.
Masked men hurled lengths of wood, chairs and bottles with some spraying fire extinguishers at police officers amid the 700-strong crowd in Rotherham on Sunday.
Residents have today (Monday) joined council workers to clear up broken glass and debris at the hotel in Manvers.
The fire door where rioters appeared to have got into the four-storey building was boarded up but with the melted remains of a bin still in place in front.
