PM ‘broke law’ if he failed to declare flat donation within one month
Boris Johnson has broken the electoral law if he received a gift or loan for his flat makeover and failed to declare it within one month, a former election official said.
The comments come amid claims that the Conservative Party secretly approved paying the £58,000 bill for Johnson’s flat – a payment then covered by a Tory donor, according to a leaked email.
“The whole purpose of this is we need to know who’s paying for politicians,” David Howarth, a former Electoral Commissioner, said “so all these transactions need to be looked at”.
