Hundreds gather outside parliament to protest government’s Illegal Migration Bill
Hundreds gathered in central London on Monday (13 March) to protest the government’s Illegal Migration Bill.
The controversial asylum proposals have cleared their first Commons hurdle, despite pleas from Tory MPs for amendments to protect trafficked women, children and modern slavery victims.
The bill aims to stop people claiming asylum in the UK if they arrive through unauthorised means.
As MPs debated the plans on Monday, those gathered outside parliament sent a clear message to the government.
Signs including “migrants and refugees welcome here” and “we the people do not trust the government” could be seen in the crowd.
