Next pandemic could be more lethal than Covid, says Dame Sarah Gilbert

The next pandemic that humankind faces could be “more lethal” and “more contagious” than the current Covid-19 pandemic, one of the creators of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine has warned.

Dame Sarah Gilbert made the comments whilst delivering the 44th Richard Dimbleby Lecture and added: "This will not be the last time a virus threatens our lives and our livelihoods. The truth is, the next one could be worse.”

Gilbert also warned that the current set of vaccines we have may be less effective against the omicron strain of the virus.
