Jimmy Lai: Pro-democracy media mogul’s trial begins in Hong Kong
The national security trial of pro-democracy media tycoon Jimmy Lai has begun in Hong Kong.
Mr Lai, 76, has been imprisoned since December 2020 and arrived in court at 10am on Monday, 18 December to face charges of colluding with foreign forces
The trial has been heavily criticised by the British government.
The mogul is a British citizen and founder of the now-closed pro-democracy newspaperApple Daily.
It will be a landmark case after China introduced legislation in 2020 for Hong Kong, making it easier to prosecute protesters.
