Water in Venice’s Grand Canal turns fluorescent green

Italian police are investigating the source of a fluorescent green liquid patch that appeared in Venice’s Grand Canal on Sunday 28 May.

The bright patch of green spread through the water near the famed Rialto Bridge, with environmental authorities also testing the water.

Footage shared by Italy’s fire service shows a number of gondoliers passing on the coloured water.

Local reports claim police were looking into whether the green colouring could be a protest by climate activists.
