Listen: Pilot and controller argue after planes narrowly avoid collision
Audio of the moment two planes were forced to perform a “go-around” at San Francisco International Airport after a Southwest aircraft crossed into the landing runway.
The incident happened on Friday 19 May, with a United and Alaska Airlines pilot performing the maneuver.
In a radio exchange, the Southwest pilot can be heard saying “we never got that clearance” after being asked by the control tower if his aircraft was departing.
“You shouldn’t be on that runway,” he is then told by the speaker from the tower, who also adds: “I don’t need an argument on frequency”.
