Moment 180ft spire collapses as blaze engulfs Copenhagen’s 400-year-old stock exchange
Watch the moment the iconic spire of Copenhagen’s historic old Stock Exchange collapses in a huge inferno.
The roof of the 400-year-old building, which was once Denmark’s financial centre, was engulfed in flames on Tuesday 16 April.
Its distinctive spire, in the shape of the tails of four dragons entwined together, reached a height of 56 metres (184ft).
Huge billows of smoke rose over downtown Copenhagen as the fire raged, and people were seen rushing inside the building to save paintings.
Danish culture minister Jakon Engel-Schmidt said passers-by helped emergency services to save “art treasures” from the blaze.
There were no reports of injuries.
