Sir Ed Davey lit a confetti cannon as the Liberal Democrats celebrated winning Somerton and Frome in Thursday’s (20 July) by election.

The Lib Dems overturned a majority of more than 19,000 with a 29 per cent swing in the Conservative safe seat in Somerset.
