Drink driver struggles to string sentence together when stopped by police after serious crash
A drink driver could not even string a sentence together when he was stopped by police following a serious crash in South Yorkshire.
John Duckworth, 46, couldn’t articulate a sentence when police were called to a three-vehicle crash in Bawtry Road, Rotherham on 6 September.
Duckworth, of Harmony Way, had failed to stop at a busy junction and caused the crash, which seriously injured an elderly woman.
Duckworth,was spoken to by officers at the scene and witnessed to be slurring his words and was slumped over the steering wheel. He was breathalysed and blew a sample of 180, with the legal limit for alcohol being 35.
Appearing at Sheffield Crown Court on 10 April, Duckworth was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison,
