‘Hero’ school bus driver saves seven-year-old boy from choking on coin
A Texas school bus driver has been hailed a hero after jumping into action to quickly save a seven-year-old boy who began choking.
Video footage shows young Preston Bell laughing with other students, before appearing to put something in his mouth.
He then walked up to his bus driver, Raquel Radford Baker, motioning for help as they pulled into a Dallas elementary school.
“He appeared to be sick, as if he needed to throw up,” Ms Baker recalled.
Realising he was actually choking, the driver carried Bell off the bus, performing the Heimlich maneuver along the way.
Ms Baker, who is trained in CPR, performed multiple rounds of the Heimlich until a quarter came out of the child’s mouth.
“She’s my hero because she saved my life,” Bell said after the incident.
