China floods: River rages in Beijing after Typhoon Doksuri makes landfall
Torrential rain has transformed Beijing’s roads into rivers and killed at least two people and trapped hundreds, despite an overnight evacuation of thousands of residents on Monday.
Hundreds of roads have become flooded with half-submerged vehicles pulled along by fast-moving torrents from the remnants of Typhoon Doksuri, which has brought record rainfall to the city. According to state media, the maximum recorded rainfall at a weather station in Mentougou hit 23 inches between Saturday night and Monday afternoon.
Tragically, two bodies were found in a river in Mentougou, as emergency services resuced hundreds of others across the city.
