Tory MP questions if Budget childcare expansion is ‘right policy for children and families’

A Tory MP has questioned if the childcare expansion outlined in Jeremy Hunt’s Budget is the “right policy for children and families”.

Following the chancellor’s announcement, Miriam Cates criticised the “inflexible” plan as it “doesn’t provide choice”.

“I question whether it will actually work,” the Conservative MP told Jacob Rees-Mogg on GB News.

“If you do shift work, which a lot of women do, then it doesn’t work and you can’t use it because it’s so inflexible,” the Conservative MP said.
