Boris Johnson won’t change Covid guidance ‘until we see exactly how dangerous omicron is’

Boris Johnson has insisted there is no need to change overall Covid guidance until “we see exactly how dangerous” the omicron variant is.

While the UK has imposed tougher restrictions on travel in recent days, the prime minister has also faced increased calls to tighten rules domestically.

“I don’t think we need to change the overall guidance and advice we’re giving about omicron in this country,” Mr Johnson said.

“We’re still waiting to see exactly how dangerous it is, what sort of effect it has in terms of deaths and hospitalisations.”
