Bomb scare in Scotland as fishermen find live Second World War grenade in canal

Magnet fishermen sparked a bomb scare after pulling an unexploded grenade from a canal in Scotland on 10 October.

The pair, from ‘Magnet Fishing Edinburgh’, were on the Union Canal in Linlithgow when they immediately realised what they had found and called emergency services.

A police bomb squad was dispatched and the grenade was taken to a nearby field to be safely detonated.

One of the fishermen, Bob, said: “Police also took our magnet off us and blew that up too because it was too risky to take the grenade off the magnet.”
