Ian Hislop jokes about ‘gunshot’ at taxi incident on return to Have I Got News For You
Ian Hislop opened the new series of the BBC's Have I Got News For You (HIGNFY) on Friday, 4 October, by joking about an incident he was involved in that was initially thought to be a shooting this week.
The Private Eye editor was travelling in a black cab through Soho in London on Tuesday morning when the car window shattered, with initial reports that someone had shot at the vehicle.
Urgent forensic examinations indicate no firearm was discharged but initial indications suggest a mechanical fault might have caused the window to shatter, police have said.
Joining in on Hislop's jokes on Friday, fellow HIGNFY panellist Paul Merton said: "I have an alibi."
