Rishi Sunak heckled by publican on visit to promote alcohol duty shake-up
Rishi Sunak was heckled by a publican during a visit to a beer festival where he was promoting a shake-up of the alcohol duty regime on Tuesday, 1 August.
The system aims to encourage drinkers to cut back by taxing all alcohol based on its strength, rather than the type of drink.
The prime minister has insisted that consumers and businesses will benefit from the post-Brexit changes despite the raises.
“Prime minister, oh the irony that you’re raising alcohol duty on the day that you’re pulling a pint,” Rudi Keyser yelled, as Mr Sunak pulled a pint at the Great British Beer Festival in London.
