Why do women find it harder to lose weight?

Doctor Amir Khan has explained some of the challenges women face when it comes to losing weight, both before and after menopause.

Dr Khan broke down the science when he appeared on ITV’s Lorraine show this week.

When asked about women finding it harder to lose weight, he said: “It is actually true.

“Women naturally, particularly before the menopause have a higher body percentage fat than men

“It’s a normal thing and oestrogen encourages the deposit of fat around your hips, your waist and buttock area, which is to help with things like pregnancy and breastfeeding, without it the foetus won’t develop properly.”
