Watch as 11,000 animals step onto the scales for the Whipsnade Zoo’s annual weigh in
Stepping on the scales can always be a bit daunting, so perhaps spare a thought for the 11,000 animals at Whipsnade Zoo today as they take part in the establishment’s annual weigh-in.
Every mammal, bird, reptile, fish, and invertebrate across the zoo will be weighed and measured.
With different personalities to take into account, zookeepers have to use clever tactics to entice the animals to stand up and be measured.
The annual weigh-in is an opportunity to make sure the information they’ve recorded is up-to-date and accurate, with each measurement then added to the Zoological Information Management System (ZIMS).
