Peta releases haunting new advert urging consumers to give up leather
Peta has released a haunting new advert asking consumers to "open their eyes to the cruelty of the leather industry".
Footage shows a blindfolded woman celebrating her birthday repeatedly striking a cow-shaped piñata with a baseball bat before it cracks open, sending intestines and blood-soaked leather accessories, such as shoes and bags, falling to the floor.
The group says it shared the video directly with designer Victoria Beckham, whose Paris Fashion Week show was disrupted by their protest.
Peta said while Beckham’s brand has banned the use of fur and exotic skins, “it still uses a large quantity of cruelly obtained leather, particularly calfskin”.
