Hippos enjoy pumpkin pool party for Halloween

Hippos living at Philadelphia Zoo enjoyed a pumpkin pool party to get into the Halloween spirit.

The zoo shared footage on X/Twitter on Sunday, 22 October, of the animals chasing and crunching the orange squashes in the water.

“Huge shout out to Riverwards for donating this year’s batch of pumpkins for our animals to enjoy during the fall season and Boo at the Zoo”, the zoo said.

Hippos weren’t the only ones to receive some spooky treats - the zoo also posted footage of hornbills digging their way into carved pumpkins as they “love jack-o-lanterns, especially when there are mealworm treats inside.”
