Bizarre ‘aubergine’ response to This Morning toxicity allegations was ‘mistake’, says ITV CEO

ITV’s chief executive has said that comments by Martin Frizell referencing aubergines when he was asked about allegations of a “toxic” work environment on This Morning were “foolish” and a “mistake.”

When pressed by Sky News, the programme’s editor said: “I’ll tell you what’s toxic and I’ve always found it toxic. Aubergine. Do you like aubergine?”

Former This Morning mainstay Dr Ranj Singh accused the programme of having a “toxic culture” after news of Phillip Schofield’s affair with a younger colleague emerged.

“I don’t think [Frizzell] intended to say that,” Dame Carolyn McCall said.
