Comedian John Oliver calls for UK to ‘wash away Tories’ at general election as he mocks Sunak’s rainy speech
John Oliver has made an explicit call for the UK to “wash away” the Tories at the general election.
The Birmingham-born comedian, host of the HBO series Last Week Tonight, suggested voters have the chance to celebrate its own “Independence Day” on 4 July.
“Britain has a chance to wash itself clean of 14 miserable years of Conservative rule, and it’s a chance it simply must take,” Oliver said, before launching an explicit tirade.
“If we do this, 4 July will no longer be known as just an American holiday.”
