Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Northern Pakistan is the venue for a trip taking in a real minority sport, wild polo: "There is only one rule: there are no rules." Marco Polo Experience (0171-734 1059 or e-mail hq@marcopol.demon.co.uk) is organising a 14-night holiday in the Hindu Kush and Karakoram mountains. The company says, "A prior knowledge of polo is not needed as a pre-holiday training day has been arranged for those wishing to try the game for the first time." The trip costs pounds 1,895 plus insurance, which at pounds 57 represents quite a bargain given the potential hazards.

Surf chairs have been introduced at beaches on Bermuda for disabled visitors. These are plastic wheelchairs that can be pushed across sand and into the water. They are available from lifeguards at Horseshoe Bay and John Smith's Bay. Bermuda Tourism (0171-734 8813) can provide an information sheet called "Facilities for the Physically Challenged".

The lowest normal fare on Swissair from London City airport to Zurich is pounds 174, but you do not have to pay a whole lot more to fly from the Docklands airport to the Far East. Swissair is offloading excess capacity to the Far East, with fares to Peking, Hong Kong and Singapore cut to pounds 455, including tax, through agents such as Quest Worldwide (0181-547 3322). You can also fly from Heathrow or Manchester to Zurich, where you transfer to the intercontinental leg. You must depart before the end of August and return within a month.
