What's the best way to...
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Join the tour of Swiss Horological Collections, led by David Thompson of the British Museum, that is scheduled to depart on time from London on 6 September. It costs precisely pounds 1,295 for eight days and will take in medieval town clocks and precision watchmakers around the country. "Strictly no cuckoo clocks", promises the organiser, British Museum Tours (0171-323 8895).
Travel economically from Copenhagen to the Arctic Circle or Finland, via Oslo or Stockholm? Get a ScanRail Pass from Scandinavian Travel Service (0171-559 6666) and use it assiduously on any five days in 15 on the railways of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. It costs pounds 132.
Get a three-hour driving ban? Become marginally under the influence of alcohol in Belgium. Disqualification and a heavy fine (up to pounds 8,000) still applies to motorists whose alcohol/blood level is above 0.08 per cent. Now drivers in the 0.05-0.08 range are penalised too. You could also be fined up to pounds 1,000. The Belgian Tourist Office warns that "two glasses of Belgian lager will get you to that limit".
Cross America for pounds 70? Buy a four-day Ameripass from Greyhound's UK office (01342 317317). You can only use it from Monday to Thursday, but it gives time enough to travel from New York to Los Angeles - even with a day's rest on the way. Or for pounds 90, you could get a five-day pass that does allow travel at weekends.
Go back to the roots of Disney? Journey around Lincolnshire, haunt of Walt's ancestors, in the travel pages of The Independent next Saturday, 12 April. Also: on the fifth anniversary of Disneyland Paris, can you enjoy the Paris theme park in a day? And find out why you might want to postpone your visit to Walt Disney World until '98.
