Katy Holland: Last minute family getaways.
Are we there yet? Some great cottages perfect for Christmas.
You lot love to leave it till the last minute to book your Christmas breaks, don't you? I've just received a fluster of requests from panicking parents asking if I can recommend any cut-price cottages over the school holidays.
Luckily, there are some left. The most generous discounts I've found are with Aspects Holidays (01736 754242; aspects-holidays.co.uk ), which has just slashed prices by 25 per cent on 200 properties in and around St Ives in Cornwall. The lovely three-bedroomed Bri Smith Cottage, for example, is now down to £400 for a week, and there's even a Cornish hamper thrown in.
You can also rely on Toad Hall Cottages (01548 853089; toadhallcottages.co.uk ) to come up with something special. It has discounts and treats galore: think boxes of chocs and magnums of champagne. Alice Cottage, in south Devon, the former home of the real-life Christopher Robin (son of Winnie the Pooh author A A Milne), is all wood-burning stoves and woodland ponds, sleeps six and has been reduced to £650 for a week. And larger families will love Cliff House, near Dartmouth, with its fab views, old fireplaces, and kids' den. It sleeps eight, and the company has just shaved 25 per cent off the price. I'm tempted by it myself, so you'd better get in quick.
