Today’s scorching weather, confirmed by the Met Office as the UK's hottest July day since records began, has left London’s commuters cooking in sweltering temperatures as they travel on the underground, but one tube station in particular has really felt the heat.
Westminster Underground station was evacuated and shut after a suspected fire at around 2pm this afternoon.
Three fire engines were called to the scene as the Underground passengers fled the station. Police were then left to guard the entrances and the shutters were pulled down.
At 2:30pm Transport for London tweeted to inform passengers that there had been a fire at alert at the station.
An hour later however and London Fire Brigade confirmed that after investigating the alarm there was no fire found.
Health experts have warned those traveling on the the underground today about excessive heat, with temperatures on the tube expected to exceed the legal limit for transporting cattle, with the Central line confirmed as being the hottest on the tube network.
