Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

A roundup of this week's offbeat travel stories from Relaxnews.

Jumping from one job to another

Former JetBlue flight attendant Steven Slater has a new job! Slater made headlines around the world when he announced his resignation over the intercom system before jumping down an aircraft's emergency chutes with two beers in hand at JFK airport, prompting an FAA investigation. His new role is as a judge deciding who has the worst travel story for a competition - although we doubt he's allowed to enter his own.

Visiting Harry Potter's grave

The grave of a fallen serviceman named Harry Potter has become a unlikely hit with tourists in Israel. The final resting place of Pvt. Harry Potter, a British soldier killed in occupied Palestine in 1939, has reportedly become a popular attraction in the central Israeli town of Ramle, with tour guides bringing "dozens of groups."

All aboard the maid train

A Japanese railway company is to run "Maid Trains" featuring some of the residents of one of Tokyo's most famous maid cafe districts, Akihabara. From December 11, the Seibu Railway Group will allow passengers to ride alongside maids on the route between Tokyo and Saitama.

Sexy holidays

If you're looking for a way to spice up your sex life, perhaps getting away is the way to do it. A new survey out this week suggested that the majority of British couples get intimate more times in a one-week holiday than they do over a period of two months at home!

Not your average flight attendant

No sign yet of when it's planned to happen, but the travel world is waiting in anticipation for the date that Virgin boss Sir Richard Branson will take to the aisles of an AirAsia flight. Branson is set to don the (female) AirAsia outfit for one flight after losing a bet with Tony Fernandes over the performance of their respective Formula One teams - the seats will be auctioned and will go to Branson's charity of choice.
