From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.A travel company is giving away Donald Trump stress balls to people who book a holiday to Mexico in protest at the US President’s “damaging” rhethoric.
Booking platform and smartphon app TRVL has 1,000 squishy balls with the US President’s face on them to give away to users who book a hotel in Mexico.
The travel company wants to reward travellers that visit Mexico, in spite of the “derogatory and frightening” language that is being directed towards America’s southern neighbour. “According to Mr Trump, Mexico is full of ‘Bad Hombres,’” said TRVL.
“We’re running a travel company because we believe that travel makes you more openminded and understanding, and that travel makes the world a better place,” said TRVL founder Jochem Wijnands.
“Mr Trump is doing the exact opposite, he’s polarising the world. We are speaking out for our values and beliefs.”
The promotion runs until TRVL has run out of stress balls.
The US government is at an impasse, now into its second month, over funding for Trump’s border wall.
