Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Today: Visit the TNT Travel Show at Earls Court 2 in London, which has all manner of backpacker ideas – and costs only £1 admission, which you can avoid completely by booking online (tnttravelshow.com). Close by, the giant Westfield Mall hosts Greece – part of the premises is being turned into a "Greek theme park" for a week, with food, a spa and "archaeological dig" (uk.westfield.com/London).
This week: Upper Class passengers on Virgin Atlantic will not only be enjoying the impressive facilities of the Clubhouse at Heathrow (free hair cuts, a spa) but until 18 April, male visitors to the swanky airport lounge will have the opportunity for having hand-made shoes fitted courtesy of Finnish cobblers the Left Shoe Company (leftshoecompany.com).
In the diary: Book into Mr C in Los Angeles. The first hotel from the Cipriani group (Harry's Bar in Venice) is set to open in Beverly Hills next month; expect classic but uncompromisingly luxurious style that evokes old-world European glamour (cipriani.com). Meanwhile, Air Europa is launching flights to Mexico City, making a low-cost option from Gatwick via Madrid possible from 2 June onwards (aireuropa.com).
