Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Today: The Blackman Hotel opens on St Kilda Road in Melbourne, named after the figurative painter Charles Blackman. The bright, luxurious rooms feature work by the Sydney-born artist, with bicycles for hire to explore the vicinity (artserieshotels.com.au/Blackman). On the Wiltshire Downs, the Camping with Pigs festival is on until tomorrow, with live music, real ales and food on the pig-filled Eastbrook Farm (royaloakbishopstone.co.uk).

This week: Copenhagen now has more Michelin stars than Rome or Milan and celebrates its gastronomic credentials with a Cooking Festival from this Friday until Sunday 29 August. Restaurants will hold special gourmet events, there will be cooking sessions for children, show kitchens, talks and markets galore (copenhagencooking.dk).

In the diary: Air Berlin is launching a new route from Stansted to Salzburg in time for the – Dare we say it? – Christmas market, from 2 December. The flights will operate on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (airberlin. com). And The Savoy is now accepting reservations for stays from 10 October. The London hotel has been redesigned (the-savoy.com).
