Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Today: The Big Scuba Show is at London Olympia until tomorrow. Visitors to the exhibition can expect question-and-answer sessions with experts, try-dives, a photography display and virtual free-diving, as well as stalls selling scuba kit, plus competition giveaways ( thebigscubashow.com).

This week: A week-long celebration of the Hogwarts Express (the steam locomotive from the Harry Potter films) is under way at the National Railway Museum in York. As part of Wizard Week you can take steam rides behind the locomotive and watch wizards perform ( nrm.org.uk).

In Miami Beach, the South Beach Food and Wine Festival is in town from Thursday to Sunday with star chefs including Alain Ducasse, Anthony Bourdain and Charlie Trotter, as well events that cover anything from home cocktail-making to "be your own barista" ( 2011.sobefest.com).

In the diary: Rio is the revived long-haul destination for Lufthansa from 1 November, five times a week from Frankfurt with good UK connections ( lufthansa.com)
