Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Today: A major exhibition of art by the early 20th-century American artist Edward Hopper and his peers, including Georgia O'Keeffe and Man Ray, opens at the Kunsthal in Rotterdam; until 17 January 2010 (kunsthal.nl).

This week: Autumn sees a crop of new hotels, starting in New York with the Crosby Street Hotel. Opening on Tuesday, it is the first of the Firmdale chain's hotels outside London and features its signature colourful prints (firmdale.com). Back in Europe, the ever-expanding W chain is opening its most iconic hotel to date in Barcelona on Thursday. The sail-shaped building has been designed by local architect Ricardo Bofill (starwood hotels.com). Also on Thursday, the Walt Disney Family Museum opens in San Francisco, celebrating the life and work of the man behind the mouse (tiny.cc/BEyBp).

In The Diary: The Tribeca Film Festival will be in Doha from 29 October - 1 November. The celebrated New York festival co-founded by Robert De Niro will make its international debut at the Museum of Islamic Art. Read 48 Hours in Doha on pages 14-15 (dohatribecafilm.com).
