From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Murphy-Goode Winery in Sonoma has created the vacancy, which comes with some serious perks: a $10,000-a-month salary, rent-free accommodation and, most importantly, 30 cases of wine.
The post will give whoever gets the role the chance to explore various areas of the industry as they discover which aspect of the winemaking process they’re most interested in.
“We have a job that will instantaneously catapult you into the wine stratosphere,” the company says in the job advert.
The successful candidate will shadow Dave Ready Jr, son of one of the founders, plus work with the e-commerce team and gain experience in operations and winemaking over the course of 12 months.

Anyone aged 21 or over who is authorised to work in the US can apply for the position by uploading a video resume to the website by 30 June.
Applicants must explain in the video what their ideal role in the wine industry would be.
Murphy-Goode Winery have advertised a similar position before, partly as a marketing tool – the employee was expected to document their experience on social media as part of the job – and partly to provide an opportunity for someone to break into what can be a competitive industry.
The winemaker has revived the “A Really Goode Job” scheme after a year in which the entire hospitality industry has been hard hit by the pandemic, and said it was doing so “as the country faces a new set of challenges”.
“We’re proud to bring back this impactful campaign amid a difficult year for many,” said Rick Tigner, CEO of Jackson Family Wines, the family-owned wine company that includes Murphy-Goode.
“Living and working in this beautiful part of the world is a true gift, and we relish the opportunity to share that with someone who is passionate about breaking into wine. We hope to hear from a variety of candidates inside and outside the industry; in our backyard and beyond.”
A winner will be chosen in July, with the position commencing in August 2021.
