Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Famed for its glass and steel Art Nouveau dome and upmarket fashion brands, Parisian department store Galeries Lafayette is offering six people the chance to stay overnight next month.
Social networking service Airbnb is listing the one-night stay on Tuesday 6 January, the night before sales start at the store. It has previously offered "A Night at" initiatives at an IKEA store in Australia, a KLM plane in Amsterdam, and a Waterstones book store in the UK.
There will be no charge for guests at Galeries Lafayette, but there are only six beds available via an online draw. Applications must be made by midnight on 28 December, in no more than 100 words.
The chosen six will then be treated to an evening with a personal shopper, during which time they'll be able to try on outfits, followed by dinner overlooking the floors as they're re-stocked before the sales start the following morning.
The beds will be set up underneath the fabled glass dome, and a full French breakfast will be served the following morning in good time for shopping - complete with a €200 gift voucher - before the doors open to the masses outside.
