Your support makes all the difference.Luxury hotel chain Hilton has unveiled a £20m refurbishment as it trials a new lounge concept in 16 of its British hotels.
“The Space” will replace the separate restaurant, bar and lounge areas on the ground floor of the Hilton properties by rolling them all into one “airport lounge” style interior. Guests will be able to plug in and log on quickly and easily thanks to accessible power points and high speed wireless and Bluetooth access, along with charging stations for mobile phones.
The new design will resemble the open, spacious and comfortable lounges commonly found in high street coffee chain outlets. Menu offerings will also be harmonized, with a new focus on healthy snacks, “natural energy boosts” and traditional food offerings. Parties or business users will be able to reserve private spaces.
A Hilton spokesman confirmed that if the trial is successful, “The Space” program could be rolled out overseas. The program is an attempt to make hotel foyers attractive to a wider cross section of travelers, now viewed as essential as the boundaries between business and leisure hotels disappear.
Hilton is unlikely to be the last establishment to attempt the transformation - in December 2009, Hotel Food and Beverage Magazine predicted that hotels will need to make their food and beverage offerings more streamlined, more customer-driven and more competitive through 2010.
