Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Feeling hot

Take advantage of the heatwave and holiday in the UK. Hoseasons is offering discounts on a range of its holiday parks in the summer holidays. A week in a timber-clad cottage at Queenshill Lodges in Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire, commencing 27 July costs £399 for a family of four. The beaches of Dumfries and Galloway are as little as eight miles away (hoseasons.co.uk).

Alternative Florida

Anna Maria Island lies south-west of Tampa, connected to the mainland by the Manatee Avenue causeway. Vacations to America is offering 11 nights on this Gulf Island for £1,449pp. The price includes flights from Gatwick on 22 August, car hire and accommodation for a family of four in a three-bedroom villa (vacationstoamerica.com).

Mountain air

For something altogether cooler, head to the Italian Dolomites, where Bailey Robinson is offering a five-night stay at the design-driven Vigilius Mountain Resort for £1,240pp. Flights from Gatwick on 3 August are included, as well as transfers, cable car access (Vigiljoch is a car-free resort) and breakfast. The hotel also has an extensive spa (baileyrobinson.com).

Get your Côte!

Spend a week on the French Riviera with Esprit Sun for £2,096 later this month. The price is for a family of four (two under-12s) departing 27 July on a self-drive holiday to the Riviera Beach Club on the Bay of Hyères and includes return ferry crossings from Dover to Calais, breakfast, dinner and access to the resort's facilities – pools, tennis courts, a boat trip, volleyball, and fitness classes as well as kids' clubs (espritsun.com).
