Fiji frugally

The South Pacific archipelago is usually expensive to include on a globe-girdling itinerary, but Round the World Flights has a £999 circumnavigation that includes Fiji as well as Sydney, Cairns, and Hong Kong, for travel from 24 December to 31 March. The Sydney-Cairns leg is not included; most travellers are likely to cover the Australia sector overland.

Sorrento deluxe

The Hotel La Solara, two miles from the centre of Sorrento, has excellent views across the Bay of Naples and a "5T" rating from Thomson. The tour operator is offering a week's half-board with daytime flights from Manchester to Naples on 29 September for £569 per person. The price includes transfers and 15kg baggage allowance.

Cape in spring

November is an excellent time to head south of the equator. With spring turning into summer, Cape Town is at its best. Expedia has a wide range of deals, such as six nights at the Simon's Town Quayside Hotel for £925 including South African Airways flights from Heathrow via Johannesburg with good connections; non-stop flights are around £250 more expensive.

Move like Harlow

… in Monte Carlo, for a long weekend at the start of October. British Airways Holidays has three nights at the designer Hotel Columbus in Monaco, for just £315 per person, with a morning flight from Gatwick on 3 October and an evening return from Nice on 6 October. If you stay in Nice itself, cheaper deals are available on those dates.
